Ulric’s Hotel Restaurant and Bar is a spacious laid back Hotel/Resort type facility located on the West Coast of Berbice (WCB)whose grand opening will take place less than a month from now.
The multi-million dollar Hotel Restaurant and Bar is located at #30 Village in Region 5 (Mahaica/Berbice) and is situated on the northern side of the village less than 500 metres away from the Atlantic ocean, and is in its final stage of completion..
The owner Mr Ulric McKenzie is a remigrant who was born and grew up in the neighboring village of Tempie WCB.
He this week told WeNews that he had recently returned home after living and working over forty years abroad.
He disclosed that he had ploughed his earnings into the construction and establishment of the Hotel Restaurant and Bar mainly as a means of providing a high quality such service in the area and as a means of giving back to the community in which he grew up and lived prior to migrating to the USA.
He explained : “This establishment will cater not only for locals wishing a welcome escape from day-to-day routines but also for overseas based visitors and tourists to WCB wishing to enjoy a perfect balance of comfort and convenience during their stay.”
“We envisage that this quiet peaceful rural ambience; the proximity of the ocean and the refreshing sea breezes, will be a form of highly therapeutic experience for those who choose to be our guests.”
He added: “I want to keep this establishment to such a standard that when someone comes here they must feel a positive difference in their mood as soon as they enter these premises.”
The grand opening is planned for early next month.
Mr McKenzie is the son of the late Thomas and Helen McKenzie of Tempie Village.
The businessman said he decided to return home after spending more than four decades in the United States working mainly in health care and on his personal business as a Realtor/Real Estate agent.
He disclosed that he was a real estate agent in New York for over twenty seven years.
Speaking on the facility, Mr McKenzie disclosed that the Hotel Restaurant and Bar will provide several amenities for the comfort of the visitors.
These will include eight self contained air-conditioned rooms, a spacious reception area, flat screen television sets, food and drink, including a continental (free) breakfast for those who spend more than three days on the premises, places to secure private belongings, a well stocked bar, full service laundry and water efficient taps and showers.
He said: “We know that our visitors will find sanctuary in our spacious rooms and plush bedrooms and then when they are hungry they can indulge in our flavorful local dishes at our on-site restaurant”
In addition Ulric’s Hotel Restaurant and Bar will cater for business meetings and conferences and social events such as birthday parties weddings and conventions..
McKenzie said that he got the idea for investment in the country of his birth after completing a four year Bachelors Degree in Business Administration in 2010.
During his time in college he developed a strong desire to come back home and build a project which would show the children and the youths in the community that they could achieve, as he did, whatever they set their mind to.
He said that he developed made the decision to establish a Hotel Restaurant and Bar because during his visits home he realized that in this community of WCB there was no established place where a family could visit and sit down and recreate themselves in a quiet and peaceful environment.
He was encouraged to get into this endeavor by close relatives and decided on going through with it ten years ago.
Another intention is to create jobs for residents in the area.
He has employed at least seven people to date and plans to employ more in order to fully staff his establishment before the opening..
The Hotel Restaurant will also provide additional employment for locals by following a fair sourcing policy on locally produced food.
McKenzie said he also plans to provide scholarships for youths in the environs when business picks up.
He said “So I did a lot for the USA and I haven’t done anything much for my country .So this is what I want to do for my country. I want to provide the kind of hotel/resort service that a visitor would not now get in this rural area.”
“This is my goal; this is my dream. I see this as my legacy”, he said.
He urges visitors to take a “Journey to relaxation” when his spacious Hotel Restaurant and Bar opens in April next.
