Guyana Water Inc. consumers in a number of villages on the West Coast of Berbice on Tuesday complained about daily disruptions of potable water supplies to their homes particularly during peak hours .
Those complaining about being hardest hit are residents of villages between Fort Wellington and Onverwagt an area served by the well at Bush Lot and those living between Lichfield and Belladrum an area served by the well at Weldaad.
One resident who receives water supplies from the well at Bush Lot told WeNEWS that the disruptions have been ongoing over the past two months.
He said:” The water cuts off at least five times each day for hours and then it comes on back and before the pressure builds up it cuts off again.”
“It’s an ongoing and very sad and serious situation. This is almost like a crisis. And as things are it looks as if there is no end in sight for us the suffering consumers.”
He opined that something seems to be wrong with the pumps which deliver the water into the distribution system.
“The water is flowing: nothing wrong with the wells at Bush Lot and Weldaad. The problem seems to be with the pumps. Looks to me that it could be voltage fluctuations affecting the functioning of the two pumps. But as I said this going on and on for the past two months and GWI ent telling we nothing.”
Apart from the wells and pumping station at Weldaad and Bush Lot the GWI operates wells at Kingelly, Bath Settlement, #7 Village, Rosignol and Ithaca and the water treatment plant at Cotton Tree.
Residents in these areas have said that they experience occasional potable water supply problems but not to the extent complained about by consumers being serviced by the wells at Weldaad and Bush Lot.
Efforts to contact officials of GWI West Berbice operations for a comment earlier today proved futile
