Fifteen persons were held in massive bush rum raids in Berbice over the weekend.
The raids which were carried out jointly by customs officers and the Police were confined to the Canje, New Amsterdam and East Bank areas.
In most of the cases the offenders were alleged to have been caught red handed during drinking sprees.
A quantity of the spirits recovered by the party has been sent to the Government analyst in Georgetown for examination.
Constable Liddell was assaulted when he and PC Arjune tried to make an arrest at Adelphi where some persons were seen drinking under a tree.
A number of persons have been charged and are expected to appear in court later this month for being in unlawful possession of bush rum.
