A 17 year old lad, Phillip Hope, who pleaded not guilty to three traffic charges was yesterday morning convicted by Magistrate K.B. Ramcharitar and fined a total of $435 in addition to being banned from driving for 25 years.
According to the Police, Hope it was alleged removed a motorcycle from under a house in Light Street Alberttown on August 14, without the owner’s consent.
The owner reported the matter and all stations were alerted.
Some time later the Skeldon Police saw Hope riding the cycle on the Corentyne and he was arrested and charged with three offences:
For taking the vehicle without the owner’s consent he was fined $200 with an alternative of three month’s imprisonment.
For driving the vehicle when he was not the holder of a driver’s licence he was fined $10 and for riding a cycle when there was no policy of insurance in force at the time, he was fined $225 and disqualified from holding a driver’s licence for 25 years.
