1928-2007
Winston was born at Belladrum, West Coast, Berbice and attended St. Alban’s Anglican Primary School, Belladrum and Enterprise High School, Georgetown. Winston commenced his teaching career at St Gabriel’s Anglican Primary School, No. 29 Village, West Coast, Berbice in 1944.
In year 1949 he enrolled at The Government Teachers’ Training College from where he graduated in 1951. Upon his graduation in 1951 he was assigned to St. Aidan’s Anglican Primary School, Wismar, Upper Demerara River. After serving at St Aidan’s for a number of years Winston was promoted to the position of Headteacher. In 1965 he was awarded a scholarship by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to study at the Indiana State University (ISU).
Winston graduated with a Bachelor of Science (BSc) from ISU in 1967, majoring in sociology, psychology, and anthropology and, in 1968, gained his Master of Science (MSc) in sociology.
His dissertation in partial fulfilment of his MSc was on the topic “Environmental Influence on Adolescence”. On his return to Guyana in 1968 he gained employment as a Management Training Officer with the Demerara Bauxite Company (DEMBA).
At DEMBA he served in managerial capacities in several areas of the company. Following his stint at DEMBA he was employed as Corporate Secretary with the Guyana National Engineering Corporation (GNEC) until his retirement
