Mr. Justice Horace Mitchell yesterday sentenced Alfred Cox to four years imprisonment after a Demerara High Court jury had found him guilty of stealing $6 from the trouser pocket of Thomas Samuels on the East Bank public road on January 3 last.
Cox who in his defence pleaded a case of mistaken identity told the Court that he arrived from McKenzie about 11:30 p.m. on January 3 and went to his aunt’s home where he slept until next morning.
He was on his way to Grove, he said, when Samuels made the accusation against him.
The jury deliberated for about two hours before returning the guilty verdict.
