Two people, including a 16 year old high school girl were injured when they and twenty two passengers panicked and jumped through the windows of a bus following a loud noise from the damaged muffler as the vehicle was being driven off from Lombard Street yesterday afternoon.
Himootie Sarran the schoolgirl from Houston and John Small 51 of Agricola, East Bank Demerara were admitted to the Georgetown Hospital in a critical condition.
Some of the passengers who suffered minor injuries in the confusion said that they heard a loud explosion which seemed to come from below one of the benches in the bus.
But a senior Police Officer said after a thorough investigation had been carried out that it was found that the noise was a “backfire” caused by a damaged muffler.
