Bones First Choice Pharmacy located at Onderneeming West Coast Berbice (WCB) and recently established in New Amsterdam, aims at raising the bar on the dispensing of medicinal drugs and patient management in Regions 5 (Mahaica/Berbice) and Region 6 (East Berbice/Corentyne).
The Pharmacy was founded by Medical professional Dr Alanna James and Mr Kester Wilson two years ago.
The New Amsterdam Branch located at Main and Asylum Street was opened two weeks ago.
Co founder Dr. James was one of two Medical Doctors who recently graduated from the Cherie Blair Foundation for Women Road to Growth and Road to Finance Training Platforms for Female Entrepreneurs.
These programs were facilitated by ActionInvest Caribbean Inc. and were sponsored by ExxonMobil Guyana Foundation.
The founders recently told wenews.gy: “Bones Pharmacies are customer focused. Our staff are trained in customer service and that is something we pride ourselves on.”
“We go out of our way to ensure that customers get the products they are looking for.”
Prescription Medications, Over the counter medication, hair care and skin care products; cosmetics, assisted devices like wheel chairs walkers crutches are some of the many medical products available at Bones First Choice.
Apart from standard pharmacy fare, another service area in which Bones First Choice is raising the bar at its Pharmacies, is with respect to patient management.
“We do this service too rather than merely dispense prescriptions.”
At either of the two Pharmacies customers can interact with a Doctor and receive treatment accordingly.
“Our clinics are basically for the entire family: diabetic clinics, hypertension, arthritic other pains;; bad colds, medication not working etc!: all done beyond the usual working hours
Persons can join the clinic and become members and secure appointments for medical care once a month or every two months depending on their needs.
The advice though is that persons requiring such attention should call and secure appointments beforehand to ensure that the Doctor is available to help them.
The Bones First Choice customer focus care extends to later than normal opening hours of the two businesses.
The Pharmacies are open to the public from 8 AM to 10PM on Mondays to Saturdays and from 8 AM to 1PM on Sundays and Holidays.
Dr James said: “, As perhaps compared to others, we go relatively late at night because we recognize that some ailments such as fevers and so on , especially for kids, tend to come on more in the night and some customers may need to get medications at such odd times, and we want to be here for them.”
They said that the Bones Pharmacies also understand that some customers might not be able to shop during working hours, hence also the extended opening hours of the businesses.
The Pharmacies also provide a convenience for customers in the form of home deliveries .
“We receive orders for medication via Whats App, We package the items and deliver to their homes..”

The first pharmacy was opened at Onderneeming WCB in November 2020 during the recent COVID 19 pandemic.
She said: “People were getting every medication they needed in Georgetown but here in WCB people in a community in which I am a part were having difficulties getting basic things like vitamins and so on”.
“The idea was for every member of the community to have easy access to medication. So the motivation was to satisfy unmet needs”
The recently opened branch at New Amsterdam will provide all the services with the extended opening hours to cater for after hours medication needs and patient management.
The WCB Pharmacy is located opposite the Fort Wellington Secondary School.

With respect to the future, they said: “We had a very positive feedback from our customers here in WCB. In New Amsterdam. Going forward we want to grow the brand that we have created here on the WCB.”
