Mayor of New Amsterdam Mr Wainwright McIntosh has said that during his term of office he will spare no effort to ensure the modernization and well- being of the town of New Amsterdam.
In a recent interview he said that his vision is to work towards New Amsterdam becoming a clean and green town where there is effective solid waste management and a resuscitated and effective drainage and irrigation system among other improvements.
He will also work along with all stakeholders including Central Government and the Regional Administration of Region 6 (East Berbice/Corentyne) as well as Opposition Councilors, to help move New Amsterdam towards becoming a major economic hub with the kind of thriving commercial and industrial center which provides economic growth and job opportunities for all its residents
He said: “New Amsterdam is an old town; we have a rich history which we will maintain and preserve but we also want to move more aggressively into 21st century mode of operation; towards more efficient and effective provision of services; towards moulding our youths and safeguarding the elderly; towards increasingly professional support from staff of the Municipality.”
Mr. McIntosh, an Educator by profession, is also the Vice President of the Rotary Club of New Amsterdam.
His term of office lasts for one year.
He has succeeded Mayor Winifred Heywood (former) who at the time of her handing over of her responsibilities as Mayor had also been the longest serving Councilor on the Mayor &Town Council of the town of New Amsterdam located in Region 6 (East Berbice/Corentyne)
