One of the top sports events of the year is billed for Sunday August 4- a speed boat race from the Atkinson Ramp to the mining town of Mackenzie.
At stake is the Torginol Cup.
The race is the first of its kind to be held over this course and racers are expected to cover the 45 mile distance in two hours.
Apart from the long distance boat race it is planned to stage a swimming race across the Demerara River in the vicinity of Mackenzie, a water-skiing exhibition, fashion show and Mr. Muscle Beach contest to round off the day’s program.
