Twenty year old Alexis Harris (Miss Steiner Cosmetics) a dimpled willowy brown skinned beauty whose infectious charm and simplicity captured the Judge’s nod on Saturday night, will represent Guyana at the Miss World Contest In London later this year.
Runner-up in the glittering keenly contested “Miss Guyana 1968” battle of the beauties at Queen’s College was curvaceous Gaitre Singh (Miss Joe Chin Travel Service) who had the largest cheering section and won the “Best Legs” prize while winsome Claire Bowen, the girl with the best smile placed third.
Alexis, daughter of celebrated Guyanese author Wilson Harris was crowned by Miss Guyana 1967 and number three world beauty Shakira Baksh.
Serenely elegant and posing a whip-willow grace, Alexis looked a winner from her first appearance on stage in a white gossamer crepe evening gown caressing her 36-24-36 figure .
The leggy 5ft. 7ins curly haired Miss Guyana 1968 will receive the biggest price ever offered in a local beauty contest.
In addition to her trip to the Miss World Contest, Alexis will be presented with a $1000 cash prize, a $1000 wardrobe and a series of small prizes including a gold locket.
